Producers looking to increase their production of cool-season grass are encouraged to attend a Nebraska Extension field day June 1 in northwest Nebraska. Michael Rethwisch, Nebraska Extension crops educator, will share information on new tools for increasing cool-season grass growth.
The first stop will be at 10 a.m. at O’Rourke’s RuJoDen Ranch south of Chadron on County Club Road. Plots at this site include the effects of RyzUp Smartgrass rates on fertilitized and non-fertilized crested wheatgrass and the effect of RyzUp SmartGrass rates and surfactants on intermediate wheatgrass. Directions to site: 5 miles south of Chadron on Highway 385, go west on King Canyon Road, south on Country Club Road, then take the first right.
At 2 p.m. participants will meet at Elvin Staman’s property, southwet of Crawford on Cobble Hill Road. Rethwisch will discuss Mustang Max and RyzUp Smartgrass interactions on black grass bug control and crested wheatgrass growth, plus RyzUp SmartGrass rates and combinations for pubescent wheatgrass. Directions to site: go west of Crawford on Highway 20, south then west on White River Road, south on Deep Creek Road and south on Cobble Hill Road.
