Tour wheat variety plots and learn about best management practices for wheat production at five UNL Wheat Field Days this June. They will include programs and tours of plots with new winter wheat varieties, experimental varieties, and many of the varieties grown by producers as well as those being used to measure progress in winter wheat variety development.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln variety performance trials are supported in part by grower check-off funds through a grant from the Nebraska Wheat Board.
June 11, 7 a.m. Furnas County
The Furnas County wheat plot tour will begin with breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Ella Missing Community Center at 411 6th St. in Arapahoe. This no-till plot is growing under extreme drought conditions. It has received 10 inches of moisture since May 1, 2012, include 1 inch in the last month. Following breakfast there will be a program and then a tour of the wheat variety plot 3.5 miles west of Beaver City or 12 miles south and 1/5 mile west of Arapahoe at the Ron and Rex McClain farm. June 25, 9 a.m. High Plains Ag Lab
The plot tour at the High Plains Ag Lab near Sidney will start at 9 a.m. Participants will meet at the shop. Directions: On Highway 385 go 6 miles north of Sidney or 7 miles south of Gurley to the Huntsman Elevator, 2.5 miles west on Road 32, 0.5 miles north on Road 109, 1 mile east on Road 32N. Plots are about 0.75 miles northeast of HPAL shop (Field #13). There will be a tour of the pea variety trial after the wheat plot tour for those who are interested. June 25, 3 p.m. Box Butte County Irrigated Plots

June 25, 5 p.m. Box Butte County Rainfed Plots

June 27, 7 p.m. Saline County Rainfed Plots
The tour will start at 7 p.m. at the test plots. Directions: From Wilber travel about 7.5 miles west on Highway 41, turn left onto County Road 1500, drive south for about 1 mile, then turn right on County Road Q.
