2017 Winter Wheat Crop Down 27% from 2016
Based on May 1 conditions, Nebraska's 2017 winter wheat crop is forecast at 51.5 million bushels, down 27% from last year's crop, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average yield is forecast at 51 bushels per acre, down 3 bushels from last year.
USDA NASS: Corn Planting at 50%, Soybean at 13%
Corn planting in Nebraska was nearly 50% complete as of Sunday, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. While average temperatures were one to two degrees below normal last week, warmer, drier conditions at week's end favored planting. Soybean planting was 13% complete.

Michael Rethwisch, Extension Educator for Butler and Polk Counties: This week I sampled alfalfa for alfalfa weevil larvae in several counties. Most larvae were very small, indicating that the hatch was very recent, and more weevil larvae should be expected.
