Cover Crop and Soil Health Tour Sept. 8 at Minden

View cover crops in the field and visit with experts about soil health benefits and grazing options this Tuesday during a field tour at Minden.

The tour, which will be from 1 to 6 p.m., will leave from the CHS Service Center at 1350 Industrial Dr., in Minden. Tour stops will include cover crops seeded into seed corn, summer cover crops planted after wheat, and corn fields where cover crops planted the previous year were grazed or not grazed. Participants will hear from speakers and cover crop producers. Additionally, information regarding an example of the economics of cover crops and grazing after wheat and the impacts of grazing cover crops will be discussed.

This free tour is sponsored by an NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant and is the result of collaboration of University of Nebraska Extension, CHS, and Arrow Seed Co. The tour will begin at the CHS Service Center, 1350 Industrial Drive, Lincoln. Registration is at 1 p.m. and the tour bus will leave for the first producer field at 1:20 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and feature a discussion on soil health by Kathy Buttle, NRCS.
