USDA NASS: Corn Planting 87% Done; Soybean, 52%

For the week ending May 21, temperatures averaged three to five degrees below normal, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Significant rainfall of two inches or more was recorded across the majority of counties; however, rainfall totals of three inches or more were recorded across the southeast.

Corn Planting Starts; Winter Wheat Condition 53% Good to Excellent

Three percent of Nebraska's corn crop was planted as of Sunday, according to this week's USDA National Agriucltural Statistics Service report. This was near last year's 6% by this time and equal to the five-year average.

US & Nebraska Prospective Plantings: Record Soybean Acreage

At 89.5 million projected acres, the 2017 US soybean acreage would set a record high and near the planting estimate for corn at 90 million acres, according to the March 31 USDA Prospective Plantings Report. In Nebraska soybean acres were also up (5.7 million acres) while corn dropped to 9.55 million acres.

NE Farm Real Estate Values Down 3 Percent from 2015; Cash Rents Also Down

USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reported Aug. 5 that Nebraska farm real estate value, a measure of land and farm building values, decreased approximately 3% from 2015. Cropland decreased 4%. Cash rents for cropland decreased an average $10-$11 per acre.

In the Northern Plains Region (Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota) there were 34,000 workers hired directly by farm operators on farms and ranches during the week of April 10-16, 2016, down 3% from the April 2015 reference week, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
