Nebraska Corn Harvest 79% Complete

For the week ending November 9,  warm conditions — temperatures averaged 5° above normal -- coupled with limited rainfall made for excellent harvest conditions.

Nebraska corn harvest stood at 79% complete, near last year's 80% at this time and on target with the five-year average, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. Nationally, corn harvest was 80% complete, a 15% increase from the previous week.

In western Nebraska sugarbeet harvest was wrapping up.

Fall tillage and fertilizer applications were underway in many areas and cattle were being moved to available stalk fields.

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 7% very short, 32% short, 60% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 8% very short, 30% short, 61% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Winter wheat conditions rated 0 very poor, 2% poor, 19% fair, 71% good, and 8% excellent.

Sorghum harvest was 84% complete, behind 89% last year, but near the average of 80%.

Pasture and range conditions rated 5% very poor, 6% poor, 32% fair, 51% good, and 6% excellent.
