  • 2013 SCN Testing Results — For the past nine years, the Nebraska Soybean Board has funded a soybean cyst nematode sampling program with UNL Extension. Since 2005, farmers have submitted nearly 5,500 samples and SCN has been newly found in 29 counties. In 2013, Rock and Custer counties were added to the list. Loren Giesler, UNL Extension plant pathologist, talks about the 2013 SCN test results.
     
  • ARC & PLC Outline — The 2014 Farm Bill will offer producers different decisions on commodity coverage. Brad Lubben, UNL Extension public policy specialist, explains how Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) could offer protection to growers.
     
  • Nutrition after Calving — Bruce Anderson, UNL Extension forage specialist, discusses the importance of maintaining good cattle nutrition after calving.
     
  • Weather Forecast — Al Dutcher, UNL Extension state climatologist, gives his forecast for the coming week.

While the price of corn to hog feeders is significantly lower than a year ago, the cost of soybean meal has risen in recent weeks. Ron Plain, University of Missouri Extension economist, will discuss how much that is impacting producers. Market Journal also will take a look at how Brazilian farmers use futures markets to protect their margins.
