Insurance Workshop Can Aid in Risk Management Decisions - UNL CropWatch, Oct. 3, 2013

October 3, 2013

The Four-State Crop Insurance Workshop, “Farm Legislation and Optimizing Risk Management Strategies,” will be held Nov. 13 in Grand Island at College Park, 3180 W. Highway 34.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension is joining Colorado State University, Kansas State University, and Oklahoma State University Extension to provide a series of crop insurance workshops. Crop insurance agents, agricultural lenders, marketing consultants, agricultural educators, and other risk management service providers will receive information to help their clients make more profitable risk management decisions. Farmers and ranchers will be able to apply the information to help them make management decisions.

The workshop will help participants

  • understand implications of precision farming on crop insurance claims,
  • understand the status of farm legislation and implications for 2014 farm decisions,
  • assess good irrigation practices for crop insurance coverage, and
  • assess grain marketing strategies for 2013-14.

Other workshops will be Nov. 12 at the Brush Fairgrounds Event Center in Brush, Colo., Nov. 14 at the Ramada Inn in Salina, Kan., and Nov. 15 at the Autry Technology Center in Enid, Okla. The workshop costs $90 for those registering at least five days before the workshop and $120 after that deadline. Each workshop begins with registration at 8 a.m. and ends by 4 p.m. For more information, including lodging, registration, and continuing education information, visit cropinsure.unl.edu.
