UNL's Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory's 10th annual open house will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 26 near Whitman.

The open house is geared toward producers, but anyone is welcome to attend. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Laboratory's Wagonhammer Education Center, followed by a welcome at 9:30 a.m. Exhibits will be on display throughout the open house.

"We hope that people come out to see what we have to offer and enjoy learning about some of the recent and current research projects," said Jerry Volesky, range management specialist at the university's West Central Research and Extension Center at North Platte. 

Presentations

The morning prorgram includes:

  • Welcome from NU Vice President and Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources Harlan Vice Chancellor John Owens;
  • Cattle Markets: Situation, Outlook and Issues; and
  • Adding Value to the Beef Chuck Roll Through Innovative Cutting.

The afternoon program includes:

  • The Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center and Emerging Diseases of Livestock: Tuberculosis
  • Heifer Development and Profitability
  • Winter Protein Supplementation
  • Plant Response to Timing of Grazing
  • The Heifer as an Additional Profit Center
  • Use of Co-Products on the Ranch.
