Nebraska Beef Feedlot Roundtable Feb. 6-8

Feedlot managers, owners, employees and allied industry will learn more about beef quality, demand, animal health and the environment at the 2007 Beef Feedlot Roundtable Feb. 6-8.

The roundtable will be offered at three locations:

Feb. 6 at the Lifelong Learning Center in Norfolk,
Feb. 7 at the Holiday Inn Express in Lexington and
Feb. 8 at the Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the first program starts at 8:45 a.m. Morning topics and speakers include: grading trends and challenges, Dennis Burson, UNL meat specialist; implant effect on quality, Court Campbell, animal health specialist; calf-feds vs. yearlings and impact of feeding byproducts, Terry Klopfenstein, UNL animal scientist, and Galen Erickson, UNL beef feedlot nutrition specialist; genetic impact on quality and industry trends, Merlyn Nielsen, UNL animal scientist; and health benefits of beef, close look at beef fat, Tim Carr, UNL nutrition scientist .

Afternoon sessions and speakers include: beef demand and new products, Ann Marie Bosshamer, Nebraska Beef Council; multi-drug resistant Salmonella and implications for beef industry, Bernadette Hartman, Center for Disease Control and Prevention; disease risk management tools for beef feedlot producers, David Smith, UNL dairy/beef veterinarian; update on CAFO regulations, Rick Koelsch, UNL livestock bioenvironmental engineer; vegetative treatment systems as a waste control facility, Chris Henry, UNL engineer, and Jason Gross, UNL livestock assistant; and research update on recent UNL feedlot work by Erickson.

Registration is $20 by Feb. 1 or $30 at the door and includes proceedings. Lunch will be sponsored by the Nebraska Beef Council.
