This year's Eastern Nebraska Wheat Growers Conference will focus on high-yielding wheat production. The conference, sponsored by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension and the Nebraska Wheat Board, will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb.1 at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings and Feb. 2 at UNL's Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead.

"With the significant increase in wheat acres planted in eastern Nebraska and the technology now available to growers, yield goals are much higher than experienced in previous decades," said Jennifer Rees, UNL Extension educator. Speakers from UNL, Kansas State University and private industry will provide information on topics necessary to achieve high wheat yields, Rees said. Topics include: Creating and Protecting Wheat Yield Potential for Maximum Profits, Fertility Requirements for Rain-fed and Irrigated Wheat, Managing Weeds in Wheat, Insects in Wheat, Comparison of Rain-fed and Irrigated Wheat Diseases, How and When Wheat Responds to Water, What's New in White and Hard Red Winter Wheat Varieties and Economic Considerations Regarding Wheat Production.
