UNL's Computerized Farm Financial Recordkeeping workshops are one of the most popular in-depth Extension programs offered. This spring these workshops will be presented at six southeast Nebraska locations.

The concepts taught in this workshop are applicable to many computerized record keeping programs, with slight modifications in procedure. This workshop will be taught hands-on using Quicken 2007 Basic™ in the classroom.

All instruction will be presented in a hands-on teaching style with participants sitting at computers performing the tasks being demonstrated. Participants should have a basic familiarity with using a computer and typing on a computer keyboard but typing is purposely kept to a minimum in the interest of time. .

No prior experience with computerized recordkeeping is necessary, however, some prior experience with a hand-kep single entry accounting system (such as the record book available through Extension) would be useful..

Participants will receive step-by-step handouts for all tasks demonstrated.

Specifically, participants will receive instruction on:

 

• Setting up and starting your records.
• Developing a chart of accounts (called categories in Quicken) to track income and expenses.
• Entering transactions into the ledger (single transactions and income and expenses split between multiple categories).
• Retrieving information from your records in the form of various reports.
• Setting up and making payments on term loans, such as a car loan.
• Reconciling the ledger with the bank statement.

Registration will be limited to due to space and computer availability. The March 19 Lancaster County meeting is filled. Reference materials, lunch, and refreshments are included in the registration fee.

The cost for each workshop is $50. A second person sharing the same computer and a single set of handouts can attend for an additional $10. Please make your check payable to UNL Extension.
