Estimating Post-Rainfall Available Nitrogen

Estimating Post-Rainfall Available Nitrogen

June 8, 2007

Over the last couple of weeks areas of the state have received higher than normal rainfall. Producers might be concerned about nitrogen leaching below the rootzone. This is more likely to be a problem in areas where soils are coarse textured and were already saturated before the rains.

Producers should evaluate their situation if they have had at least four inches of rain infiltrate into the ground since nitrogen was applied.
