November 16, 2007

Dr. Linda Boeckner, a long-time faculty member at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center, has been appointed Interim District Director of the center, replacing departing Director Dr. Charles Hibberd.

John Owens, NU Vice President and Vice Chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, expressed gratitude to Hibberd for his leadership and effectiveness as District Director. Hibberd has accepted a position as director of Extension at Purdue University, after having served as District Director since 1994.

Boeckner's appointment was announced by John Owens, NU Vice President and Vice Chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. An Extension Nutrition Specialist, she has been on the staff at the Panhandle Center since 1987. She received her Ph.D. in 1982 from the University of Nebraska. Her current Extension programs focus on reducing risk of lifestyle diseases through diet, weight management, and nutrition and fitness for youth.

While serving as interim director, she will also carry out the responsibilities of her nutrition position. "Linda brings a wealth of successful programming and leadership experience to this interim position," Owens said in announcing the appointment to University personnel. "We are most fortunate and appreciative that aprofessional with the skills such as Linda is willing to take on this important temporary position."

A search advisory committee has begun the process of seeking a permanent District Director.
