UNL Weatherfest this Saturday

UNL Weatherfest this Saturday

April 3, 2009

If listening to the weather and watching for storms has become one of your favorite pastimes, don't miss this Saturday's Weatherfest, hosted by UNL's School of Natural Resources.

The 9th Annual Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium and Family Weatherfest offers information and activities for every age. The event is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at UNL's Hardin Hall at 3310 Holdrege St. on Lincoln's East Campus.

This year's theme is "Weatherscapes on the Plains." Presentations will include information, storm videos and stories from those who predict, follow or write about severe weather, including several sessions on how to use your digital camera to capture storms. Weather spotter training also will be offered.

Among the featured speakers is Randy Cerveny, a geography professor at Arizona State University, who wrote Freaks of the Storm, a collection of true stories about weird weather phenomenon recorded all over the world.

Weatherfest includes a range of children's activities, including "Be Weather Wise with Weather Whys" and "Hail to You.".
