Map indicating alfalfa weevil development

Accumulated growing degree days (GDD) from Jan. 1 to May 20, using a base of 48°F. Egg hatch begins at 300 degree days accumulated since January 1 and maximum damage will occur from about 450 to 600 GDDs. Growers in northeast Nebraska may still see injury from alfalfa weevils. Early cutting or an insecticide application can be used to manage high populations of alfalfa weevils. See the May 1 CropWatch for information on scouting and control options.
