USDA Report: 80% of Soybeans, 32% of Corn Harvested - UNL CropWatch, Oct. 21, 2013

October 21, 2013

With soybean harvest nearly complete, Nebraska producers are turning their attention to getting the state corn crop out of the field. The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service estimates that by Sunday, 80% of the soybeans and 32% of the corn had been harvested.

With last week's rains — an inch or more in the eastern two-thirds of the state — soil moisture continued to improve. Topsoil moisture is now rated 6% very short, 23% short, 69% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated 18% very short, 37% short, 45% adequate, and 0% surplus. Below normal temperatures, coupled with the rains, slowed harvest during the first part of the week, but conditions had dried out enough in most areas that combines were rolling again.
