The UNL High Plains Ag Lab near Sidney will host its annual field day Aug. 4 with research updates on grass for biofuel, alternative crops, weed and insect control, livestock grazing, and other topics. Results from the 2011 winter wheat variety trials also will be presented. 

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the High Plains Ag Lab shop; presentations will conclude by noon.

  • Forages after irrigated winter wheat with Aaron Berger, Extension educator
  • Pea cube supplements for cattle with Karla Jenkins, cow-calf/range specialist
  • Integrated crop/livestock research with Karla Jenkins and Drew Lyon, dryland cropping systems specialist
  • Can we knock out the bad insects while keeping the good insects in range? with Jeff Bradshaw, entomologist
  • A 60-foot entomological “finger to the wind” with Jeff Bradshaw
  • Proso millet and other alternative crops with Dipak Santra
  • Flaming for weed control in organic sunflower; Drew Lyon

To get to the High Plains Ag Lab, take U.S. 385 to the Huntsman Elevator (6 miles north of Sidney or 7 miles south of Gurley), then drive about 2 miles west, then 1/2 mile north. The shop is about 1/2 mile east of the office.
