No-till on the Plains will host a field tour and program June 14 near Wallace to provide information on how to use no-till to increase profitability and improve soil health.

The event will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Conrad Nelson farm at 37629 W. Nelson Road (2 miles west of Wallace on Highway 23 and 1 mile north on Parker Road).

The program will include no-till expert speakers, an experienced no-tiller from the area, and hands-on learning opportunities. Nelson has been using an ecofallow rotation with no-till for 28 years and has been in continuous no-till for the last five years. He uses a corn-corn-soybean-wheat rotation and farms in soils ranging from sandy loam to silt loam on mostly rolling hills. The farm receives an average annual rainfall of 18 inches.

• Kristine Nichols, soil microbiologist for USDA ARS in Mandan, N.D.
• Ray Ward, president of Ward Laboratories in Kearney
• Paul Jasa, UNL Extension Engineer
• Dietrich Kastens, Herndon, Kan., producer
• Keith Berns of GreenCover Seed in Bladen

This program is funded through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust and PrairieLand RC&D.
