The fertilizer prices in the UNL Extension 2011 Nebraska Crop Budgets (EC 872) have been updated to reflect increases in product prices. The prices in the original budgets for 2011 were obtained in late August 2010. The fuel and land prices used in the budgets were also updated.

Producers may want to revisit their budgets to examine how these price increases will affect the profitability of various cropping systems. With fertilizers you’ll want to use these new prices or actual prices from your dealer to calculate current costs.

We know many producers purchased fertilizer last fall or during the winter. The actual cost of fertilizer can then be used to determine the most profitable fertilizer rates using programs such as UNL’s Corn Nitrogen Calculator, available on the CropWatch Soil Management page.
