UNL CropWatch: Stored Corn and Soybean Stocks Down from Last Year

Corn stocks in all positions on March 1 totaled 766 million bushels, down 16% from March 1, 2010. Of the total, 380 million bushels are stored on farms, down 28% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 386 million bushels, are up 3% from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions on March 1 totaled 89 million bushels, down 2% from last year. On-farm stocks are 25 million bushels, down 19% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 64 million bushels, are up 7% from 2010.

Wheat stored in all positions on March 1, 2011 totaled 54.8 million bushels, up 19% from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 2.9 million are down 34% from 2010. Off-farm stocks of 51.9 million bushels are up 24% from last year and the highest level since 1988.

Sorghum stored in all positions on March 1 totaled 6.8 million bushels, down 37% from 2010 and the lowest level since 1957. On-farm stocks are 1.3 million bushels, down 46% from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 5.5 million bushels, are 34% below last year.

Both on-farm and off-farm stocks are at their lowest level since 1957.
