June 11, 2010
The Panhandle Weed Science Tour will be Thursday, June 24, at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center in Scottsbluff.
Visitors will be able to view research plots in sunflowers, soybeans, sugarbeets, corn, dry beans, and potatoes. Weed control programs for Roundup Ready corn, Liberty-Link corn, conventional corn, Roundup Ready sugarbeet, and conventional sugarbeet will be shown. They also can observe the influence of 12 years of continuous glyphosate application on weed shifts and the development of glyphosate tolerance in the weed population.
The tour starts at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 12 p.m. A brief tour after lunch might be of interest to those who plan to travel on to the University of Wyoming Weed Science Field Day at Lingle. At 1:30 p.m., a short tour stop near Mitchell will provide a look at off-station Canada thistle control studies.
