USDA: Nebraska Grain Stocks

Corn stocks in all positions on March 1, 2008 totaled 767 million bushels, up 20% from March 1, 2007, according to a March 31 USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. Of the total, 430 million bushels are stored on farms, up 26% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 337 million bushels, are up 12% from last year and the highest since 1989.

Soybeans stored in all positions on March 1, 2008 totaled 119 million bushels, down 19 percent from last year’s record high. On-farm stocks are 34 million bushels, down 33% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks at 85 million bushels are down 12% from the record high of 2007.

Wheat stored in all positions on March 1, 2008 totaled 29.4 million bushels, up 28% from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 1.1 million bushels are down 35% from 2007 and the lowest since records began in 1950. Off-farm stocks of 28.3 million bushels are up 33% from last year.

Sorghum stored in all positions on March 1, 2008 totaled 13.9 million bushels, up 11 percent from 2007. On-farm stocks are 2.7 million bushels, up 42% from last year’s record low. Off-farm stocks at 11.2 million bushels are 5% above last year.
