Field Crop Scout Training Offered in May

UNL is offering a one-day class to train new field scouts — particularly student workers and summer interns — for co-ops, independent crop consultants, farm service centers and similar groups.

The introductory level Field Scout Training session will be Monday, May 14, at UNL's Agricultural Research and Development Center (ARDC) near Mead.

Training is hands-on and in-field on topics such as corn and soybean growth and development; corn and soybean insect pests; natural enemies; weed identification; crop diseases; nutrient deficiencies; and sampling methods.

Cost of the training is $70, if registered with payment by May 7; $80 if payment is received after May 7. Participants are also eligible to receive 5.5 CCA credits for the training. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with training beginning at 9 a.m.

Other clinics scheduled for the ARDC this summer include: Mid-Summer Clinic with Pest Management and Crop Production as the focus on July 12 and with Nutrient Management and Soil and Water as the focus July 13.
