Agronomy Adds an Extension Weed Science Educator

This week Lowell Sandell joined the
UNL Department of Agronomy and Horticulture in Lincoln as an Extension Weed Science Educator. We welcomed Lowell to our team of CropWatch Contributors and invited him to share a little information.

Lowell Sandell, Extension Weed Science Educator: At UNL my primary duties will be to plan and participate in extension weed science activities, working in conjunction with other faculty and staff in our department and throughout the extension service. These activities will range from coordinating the Crop Protection Clinics to identifying samples submitted to the UNL Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic. I also will contribute to and help edit upcoming editions of the Nebraska Weed Management Guide.

I am originally from a Century Farm in north central Iowa. My background is primarily in corn and soybean production. I received a B.S. degree in agronomy and an M.S. degree in weed science from Iowa State University. My career has taken me from Iowa to the University of Kentucky, then to an agriscience teaching position at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, WI.

I am very excited to be at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and look forward to working with our state clientele. I can be contacted at lsandell2@unl.edu or 402-472-1527. My mailing address is 362A Plant Sciences Bldg., University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE 68583-0910.
