USDA: Grain Stocks

Corn stocks in all positions on March 1, totaled 642 million bushels, down 20% from March 1, 2006. Of the total, 340 million bushels are stored on farms, down 28% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 302 million bushels, are down 10% from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions on March 1, 2007 totaled a record high 148 million bushels, up 23% from last year. On-farm stocks are 51 million bushels, up 13% from a year ago and the second highest on record. Off-farm stocks at 97 million bushels are a record high, up 28% from 2006.

Wheat stored in all positiosn on March 1, 2007 totaled 22.9 million bushels, down 18% from a year ago and the lowest since 1952. On-farm stocks of 1.7 million bushels are down 35% from 2006 and the lowest since records began in 1950. Off-farm stocks of 21.2 million bushels are down 16% from last year and the lowest since 1975.

Sorghum stored in all positions on March 1, 2007 totaled 12.6 million bushels, down 20% from 2006 and lowest since 1957. On-farm stocks are 1.9 million bushels, down 39% from a year ago and the lowest on record. Off-farm stocks at 10.7 million bushels are 16% below last year and the lowest since 1957.
