Gary Lesoing, Extension Educator in Nemaha County: Some corn is being harvested in Otoe, Nemaha and Richardson counties. Much of this is corn that went down in storms last month. We've received eports of some very good yields, 200 bu/ac on an irrigated field. Moisture levels in some fields were 17-18%. Some fourth cutting hay has been harvested and was very good quality. Soybeans are in the R6-R7 stage and starting to turn. Along some field borders, grasshoppers are eating soybean pods. Also soybean aphid populations are increasing up to 50-100 aphids per plant. It is doubtful that fields will require treatment, but populations may increase with cooler temperatures predicted next week. Bean leaf beetle populations are at high levels in most fields that were scouted.

Jennifer Rees, Extension Educator in Clay County: An Aug. 22 wind and hail storm stripped leaves and downed corn and soybean plants in many fields throughout Clay County. Most of the corn was 1/2 starch at the time so yield shouldn't be too affected if producers can get the corn picked up. Corn is quickly maturing, beans are beginning to mature and sorghum heads are turning color and looking good. Some corn harvest started this week with moisture is around 21% in those fields.
