USDA Aug. 13 Report: Nebraska Crop Condition

Corn conditions rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 17% fair, 49% good and 29% excellent, well above last year’s 53% good or excellent rating, according to the August 13 crop condition report from USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. Irrigated fields rated 87% good or excellent while dryland fields rated 65% good to excellent, both above year-ago levels. Corn in the dough stage was 77%, even with last year and ahead of the 64% average. Corn in the dent stage was 26%, ahead of last year’s 23% and 16% average.

Soybean conditions rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 22% fair, 51% good and 23% excellent, well above last year’s 43% good or excellent condition. Soybeans blooming were 97%, behind last year’s 99% and the average of 98%. Soybeans setting pods was 81%, behind last year’s 90% and 83% average.

Alfalfa condition rated 7% very poor, 12% poor, 23% fair, 46% good and 12% excellent, well above last year’s 23% good or excellent condition. Third cutting was 55% complete, behind last year’s 62% and 58% average. Harvested oats was 98%, near last year’s 99% and even with the average.

Sorghum conditions rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 17% fair, 59% good and 23% excellent, well above last year’s 48% good or excellent condition. Sorghum headed was 80%, behind last year’s 82% but ahead of the 74% average. Sorghum turning color was 3%, behind last year’s 8% and 7% average.

Dry bean conditions rated 0% very poor, 5% poor, 26% fair, 59% good and 10% excellent, above last year’s 59% good or excellent condition. Dry beans blooming were 93%, behind last year’s 100% but ahead of the 92% average. Dry beans setting pods were 60%, well behind last year’s 90% and 70% average.
