USDA: Nebraska Cattle On Feed Up 3%; U.S. Numbers Down 1%

Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.05 million cattle on feed on July 1. The inventory was up 3% from last year and 13% above July 1, 2005. This is the highest July 1 inventory since the series began in 1994.

Placements in feedlots during June totaled 330,000 head, down 11% from 2006 but up 14% from 2005.

Marketings of fed cattle during June totaled a record 560,000 head, up 14% from last year and 10% above June two years ago. Other disappearance during June totaled 10,000 head, the same as 2006 and 2005.

Nationally, cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States, for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head, totaled 10.7 million head on July 1, 2007. The inventory was 1% below July 1, 2006 but 3% above July 1, 2005. Placements in feedlots during June totaled 1.66 million, 15% below 2006 and 6% below 2005.

Marketings of fed cattle during June totaled 2.14 million, 3% below 2006 but up 3% from 2005. Other disappearance totaled 52,000 during June, down 17% from 2006 and 2005.
