USDA: Crop Conditions

• Corn conditions are rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 12% fair, 63% good and 23% excellent, well above last year’s 62% good or excellent rating. Emerged corn was 99%, even with last year and just ahead of the 98% average.
• Soybean conditions rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 19% fair, 66% good and 13% excellent, also well above last year’s 63% good or excellent condition. Soybeans planted were 97% complete, still behind last year’s 100% and the 98% average. Soybeans emerged was 80%, behind last year’s 95% and the 85% average.
• Wheat conditions rated 1% very poor, 9% poor, 30% fair, 53% good and 7% excellent, well above last year’s 17% good or excellent condition. Wheat headed rose to 96% complete, even with last year and ahead of the 91% average. Wheat turning color was 31%, behind last year’s 44% but ahead of the 27% average. Harvest is expected to begin in southern counties the third week in June.
• Oat conditions rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 16% fair, 75% good and 7% excellent, well above last year’s 24% good or excellent condition. Oats headed was 52%, less than 2006’s 62% but ahead of the 50% average.
• Sorghum planted was 79% complete, behind last year’s 93% but ahead of the 89% average. Sorghum emerged was 53%, behind last year’s 68 average and the 63 average.
• Alfalfa conditions rated 1% very poor, 7% poor, 27% fair, 51% good and 14% excellent, well above last year’s 37% good or excellent condition. First cutting was 66% complete, behind last year’s 88% and the average of 71%.
• Dry bean planting was 81% complete, near last year’s 83% but ahead of the 68% average. Dry beans emerged was 33% ahead of last year’s 32 and 22 averages.
• Proso millet planted was 40%, ahead of last year’s 35% and the average of 36%.
• Pasture and range conditions: Pasture and range conditions rated 0% very poor, 3% poor, 22% fair, 58% good and 17% excellent, well above last year’s 23% good or excellent condition.
