Acreage to be harvested from grain is estimated at 1.85 million acres, up 150,000 acre or 9% from last year. This would be 95% of the planted acres, compared to 94% harvested last year and the 10-year average of 93%.
May 1 hay stocks of 850 thousand tons are down 21% from last year and 27% below the 10-year average. Lower production in 2006 and increased cattle inventories have reduced current supplies.
