USDA Report: Crop Condition

Despite near normal temperatures across the state, continuing wet weather has minimized field work. All eight districts recorded precipitation, with each averaging at least 1.5 inches and the central district reporting 3.5 inches. Temperatures averaged near normal. Overall, days suitable for work averaged at 1.7, versus last week’s 5.0 and the average of 4.3.

Corn planting was 14% complete, well behind last year’s 36% and five days behind the average of 31%. The first fields of corn were emerging in southern counties.
Wheat condition, improved from last week, rated 2% very poor, 9% poor, 34% fair, 44% good and 11% excellent, above last year. Wheat jointed was at 46%, ahead of last year’s 36% and the average of 39%.
Alfalfa, also improved from last week, rated 4% very poor, 16% poor, 39% fair, 37% good and 4% excellent, but still well below last year’s 77% good or excellent condition.
Oat planting increased to 86% complete, but remained behind last year at 95% and average of 92%. About 45% of the oats had emerged, well behind last year’s 60% and average of 62%.
Pasture and range conditions rated 1% very poor, 9% poor, 37% fair, 48% good and 5% excellent, below last year.
