Nebraska Soybean Day and Machinery Expo features benefits of biofuels

The 2006 Nebraska Soybean Day and Machinery Expo Dec. 8 will feature "Biofuels: The Road Ahead — Benefitting from Bio-Fuels" presented by keynote speaker Steve Johnson, farm and ag business management specialist, Iowa State University Extension. The expo, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will be in the pavilion at the Saunders County Fairgrounds in Wahoo, said Keith Glewen, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension educator.

Johnson specializes in topics related to grain marketing, government farm programs, crop insurance and other risk management strategies including grain production contracts and grain storage, Glewen said. He speaks annually at meetings, workshops and conferences across the Midwest. This past year Johnson was referenced in Successful Farming, Farm Journal, Farm Futures, Top Producer and Grain Journal magazines. Johnson's presentation will include: driving forces for the bioeconomy, changing your crop rotation, adapting to volatile crop prices, emerging new biorefineries, determining future feedstocks and positioning your farm operation.

"Johnson's day to day working relationship with production agriculture, coupled with his gift to communicate with growers, truly makes for a stimulating educational experience," Glewen said.

Other presenters include UNL researchers and specialists, Nebraska Soybean Board representatives, soybean growers and private industry representatives.
