Learning the basics of bio-diesel — growing your own fuel

If you're interested in learning more about bio-diesel and its potential commercial application, you'll be interested in attending one of two upcoming meetings on "Home Grown Energy: Bio-diesel Basics — Grow Your Own Fuel. "

Meetings will be held Dec. 12 in Ord and December 13 in Atkinson. Registration is required. The fee is $25 by December 6 and $30 after that date. Lunch is included in the registration fee.

Speakers are from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USDA Farm Service Agency, agribusiness, Nebraska Renewable Energy Systems, Flying F Bio-Fuels and the North Central and Loup Basin Resource Conservation and Development districts. Program topics will include: bio-diesel basics, alternative oil seed crops for bio-diesel, importance of reporting crop acres, oil seed processing systems, bio-diesel production, quality issues and the 15-county bio-based business friendly region.

In a continuing effort to promote renewable energy, this workshop is sponsored by the Upper Elkhorn NED, Middle Niobrara NRD, Lower Loup NRD, Nebraska Forest Service, Loup Basin and North Central Resource Conservation and Development programs.
