Herbicide Action in Plants will be Dec. 5-6 at the Nebraska East Union on UNL's East Campus. Spatial Data Gathering, Processing and Interpretation will be Dec. 11 at LW Chase Hall, also on UNL's East Campus.
Herbicide Action in Plants will include a combination of lecture, discussion and hands-on problem solving to teach participants the basics of in-field herbicide performance. Alex Martin, UNL weeds specialist, and Mark Bernards, UNL irrigated weeds specialist, will present the workshop. Workshop topics include symptoms of common herbicides, herbicide selectivity, the effects of environmental conditions on herbicide performance, herbicide-resistant crops and common spray additives. The workshop is recommended for graduate students, certified crop consultants, certified professional agronomists, crop production and management industry personnel, producers, extension educators and science and vocational agriculture teachers.
UNL tuition and fees apply for students wishing to receive college credit. For noncredit and CEU-credit participants, cost is $250 before Nov. 21 and $300 after and includes all course-related materials, parking permit, lunch and refreshments. Spatial Data Gathering, Processing and Interpretation will include eight hours of interactive instruction by UNL faculty and staff in several topics on data management in precision agriculture. Hands-on training will be conducted using Manifold 7.0 GIS software package. Topics include sources of spatial data for site-specific management, management in relation to variable growing conditions, GIS packaging, popular data mining approaches and development of prescription maps for application of agricultural inputs. Producers, crop consultants, agribusiness and government agency representatives and educators are encouraged to attend. Continuing education credits for the Certified Crop Advisor program are available. Preregistration required as the workshop is limited to 22 participants. Cost is $70 one week in advance and $80 after. Fees include lunch, refreshment breaks and workshop materials. Registration and introduction begin at 8:30 a.m. in 149 LW Chase Hall with training concluding at 5 p.m.
