Soybean production in Nebraska is forecast at 255 million bushels, 6% above last month, 8% above last year, and highest on record. Yield is forecast at a record 51 bushels per acre, up 1bushel from last month and up 0.5 bushel from the previous high of 50.5 bushels per acre in 2005. Area for harvest, at a record 5.0 million, is up 200,000 acres from September, 7% above last year and 2% above the previous high set in 2001.
Sorghum production in Nebraska is forecast at 21.1 million bushels, down 12% from September and 3% below last year. Yield is forecast at 81 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from the previous month but down 6 bushels from last year. Area for harvest at 260,000 is down 40,000 acres from last month, but up 4% from a year earlier. Dry edible bean production of 2.67 million cwt. is down 31% from last year. Sugarbeet production of 1.28 million tons is up 39% from 2005.
Sunflower production of 47.9 million pounds is down 66% from last year.
Alfalfa hay production is forecast at 4.55 million tons, 2% below last year, and all other hay production, at 2.15 million tons, is forecast 8% below a year earlier.
