In 1996 Extension began posting many of these publications to the Web to provide an additional publication format that’s searchable and available 24/7. Use of this Web site, which was once cited by the Wall Street Journal as one of its top three picks for ag information, increased over the years as more publications were added and more people moved to using the Web for information searches.
Earlier this year Extension began a review and revision process to move many of its current publications to a new, data-based Web site at extension.unl.edu/publications. As part of the process, older publications are being reviewed and revised as new ones continue to be added. Many new ones are available both in a printer-friendly PDF format and a more Web-friendly HTML format. (The PDF format requires use of the Adobe Acrobat Reader, available free online at adobe.com.)
During this interim period, some of your favorite “old, reliable” publications may not be available on the new web site. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our readers during this time, but we eventually hope to offer a site that’s current, searchable, and offers more topic categories and additional reader services. For example, one of the publications posted to the new site this week, Determining Crop Available Nutrients from Manure, offers a form with automatic calculations to help estimate crop-available nutrients for your situation. At this time, the form and its calculations can be completed online and then printed, but unfortunately, it can’t be saved to your computer. To view this publication and try out the on-line worksheet, go to http://www.ianrpubs.unl.edu/sendIt/g1335.pdf
Hundreds of publications have already been moved and more are being moved each week. Bookmark the site and plan to visit it regularly to stay informed with the latest information for your farm, family and small business.
