Emergency grazing approved for CRP acres

Several Nebraska counties have been approved for emergency grazing of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres. This allows CRP contract holders within a designated county to use a percentage of their acres for livestock forage, once they have submitted a grazing application to their local Farm Service Agency office. See
map for currently approved counties. Further information about the program is available in a USDA fact sheet: Conservation Reserve Program Haying and Grazing of Acreage.

Governor Dave Heineman has authorized the release of road rights-of-way for haying due to the ongoing drought situation. To participate in the program, individuals must visit their regional Nebraska Department of Roads office to purchase a roadside haying permit. For details about the program, including opening dates for sign-up and locations where permits can be purchased, go to the Nebraska Department of Roads Drought Info and Resources Web site.
