Nebraska cattle on feed up 9%

Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 1.99 million cattle on feed on July 1, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. The inventory was up 9% from last year and 8% above July 1, 2004. This is the highest July inventory since the data series began in 1994.

Placements in feedlots during June totalted 370,000 head, up 28% from 2005 and 30% above 2004. This is the highest June placements since the data series began in 1994.

Marketings of fed cattle during June totaled 490,000 head, down 4% from last year, but 13% above June two years ago. Other disappearance during June totaled 10,000 head, the same as last year and two years ago.

Nationally, cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.9 million head on July 1, 2006. The inventory was 5% above July 1, 2005 and 7% above July 1, 2004. This is the second highest July 1 inventory since the series began in 1996.

Placements in feedlots during June totaled 1.95 million, 10% above 2005 and 18% above 2004. This is the second highest placements for the month of June since the series began in 1996.

Marketings of fed cattle during June totaled 2.20 million, 6% above 2005 and up 6% from 2004. Other disappearance totaled 63,000 during June, unchanged from 2005, but 10% below 2004.
