Locating hay resources

With pasture quality deteriorating and hay supplies low in drought areas, producers have a couple options for locating hay and forage supplies.

In the Panhandle, producers can list their hay for sale through the Scotts Bluff County Extension Web site. To list your hay or get more information, contact the Extension Office at 308-632-1480. The site is available at www.scottsbluff.unl.edu/alfalfaforsale.htm.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture also offers a resource to coordinate hay sales, the Hay and Forage Hotline at www.agr.state.ne.us/hayhot/hayhotline.htm. The toll-free hotline number is 800-422-6692. To place your hay or forage on the “Sellers List,” call the toll-free number and provide your name, contact information, and the specifics of what you’d like to sell. This list is updated regularly and made available to potential buyers by mail or on the Web. Potential buyers are responsible for contacting the sellers directly to negotiate any transactions.
