Summer organic farming events

Grain Place Foods, Saturday, July 15, 8:30 a.m.
Tours of the organic fields and processing center begin at 8:30 a.m. Speakers will include Mike Herman and Don and Dave Vetter who have been sharing and learning about their evolving organic farm system for 30 years.

Ron Johnson, UNL professor, School of Natural Resources, and Liz Sarno, Extension educator and organic project coordinator, will discuss UNL's organic research projects and the Healthy Farm Index. This research is part of a USDA grant effort to document the impact on wildlife at four organic research sites and on established organic farms. This is a unique opportunity to discuss the impact of bio-diversity on organic farms with the researcher. This project is gathering input from organic farmers on their crop concerns and organic research needs, so come share your thoughts.

Details: The Grain Place is on Highway 14, 6 3/4 miles north of Aurora. An organic lunch will be served. Call 402-854-3195 to make tour and lunch reservations. Cost is $10.
