2006 Guide for Weed Management in Nebraska (EC130). This 200-pageguide features research results and recommendations specific to weed management in Nebraska crop production. It includes chemical as well as integrated weed management and nonchemical weed control and the background information to create a customized strategy for your operation.
Sections include: Herbicide mode and site of action, herbicide hazards and safety; resistance; recommendations for herbicide applications and sprayers; herbicide additives; and efficacy trial results and recommendations for various weed control strategies for the state’s ag crops and turfgrass and special sections for “troublesome” and noxious weeds. It also includes a herbicide dictionary with information on herbicides and their active ingredients. A comprehensive guide for Nebraska producers, it is compiled by UNL weed scientists from across the state. It is available online or can be purchased for $5.
The Glyphosate, Weeds, and Crops Series. This publication series is being published by Purdue University Extension in cooperation with land grant universities across the Midwest, including the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As glyphosate-resistant weeds have developed in some areas, weed scientists have joined to provide educational materials on integrated weed management system which may help reduce or slow the development of resistant weeds so that producers can keep this valuable weed control tool longer.
The following two titles are currently available in Nebraska and more will become available as they are published. To see the full list of titles in this series, visit the Purdue Extension Education Store.
WeedSOFT 2006: Decision making for weed management continues to be challenging because the selection of control tactics must combine economic, regulatory, and environmental considerations with relevant biological knowledge about the weeds and the crop. This program just keeps getting better and better as refinements and new tools are added. WeedSOFT® 2006 includes preview versions of the new weed mapping packages - WeedMapper and Pocket WeedMapper.Biology and Management of Horseweed (GWC-9). “The purpose of this publication … [is to] discuss some of the biological characteristics that make horseweed particularly troublesome to control in agronomic crops. Second, we will provide management strategies, using technologies now available, that will allow growers to control herbicide-resistant horseweed and hopefully slow the spread of glyphosate resistance.” In Nebraska horseweed also may be know as marestail.
Biology and Management of Wild Buckwheat (GWC-10). “The purpose of this publication . . . [is to] describe the biology of wild buckwheat, allowing why this weed is particularly troublesome in agronomic crops. Second, it will provide management strategies to help growers increase wild buckwheat control.”
WeedSOFT® is a decision support system (DSS) designed to assist growers, consultants, and extension agents in making both proactive and reactive weed management decisions. This comprehensive tool will help farmers in every step of their weed management decision. WeedSOFT® provides you with the treatment information you need according to your specific field conditions while factoring in economic and environmental principles. Whether you are considering early season soil applied treatments, control of mid-season infestations, or comparing treatments requiring additional costs for herbicide resistant crops, WeedSOFT® provides a powerful tool for your weed management decisions. WeedSOFT® is currently a regional project with state-specific versions available in 9 North Central states in 2006. Visit the WeedSOFT® Web site for ordering information. Cost is $50.
