Soybean conditions improved and rated 3% very poor, 11% poor, 28% fair, 44% good, and 14% excellent, which is above last year. Twenty-nine percent were turning color, below last year’s 36% and 31% average. Three percent of the soybeans were dropping leaves, near last year’s 4% and below the average of 7%.
Alfalfa conditions rated 14% very poor, 21% poor, 34% fair, 28% good, and 3% excellent. This rating continues to be well below last year. Alfalfa third cutting was 94% complete, near last year’s 95% and ahead of the 90% average. Alfalfa fourth cutting was 17% complete, behind last year’s 19%, but ahead of the 11% average.
Sorghum conditions improved and rated 3% very poor, 9% poor, 32% fair, 43% good, and 13% excellent, near last year. Nearly all sorghum was headed. Seventy-one percent of the sorghum planted was turning color, near last year’s 70% but ahead of the 55% average. Three percent of the sorghum was mature, near last year’s 1% and average of 2%.
Dry beans turning color rose significantly to 71%, ahead of last year’s 52% and 49% average. Thirty percent of the dry beans were dropping leaves, ahead of last year’s 19% and average of 24%. Three percent of dry beans had been harvested, below last year’s 5% and average of 6%. Dry bean conditions rated 0% very poor, 5% poor, 32% fair, 54% good, and 9 excellent.
Producers had 5% of the winter wheat seeded. This is ahead of last year’s 3% and even with the average.
Proso millet was 5% harvested, behind last year’s 12% and average of 16%.
