GPS-based auto-guidance clinic on Sept. 11

This year’s Husker Harvest Days will provide plenty of opportunities for those interested in auto-guidance applications to view and test drive tractors equipped with these systems,. Equipment will be featured at company displays, the Ride ‘N’ Drive area, and will be discussed in a special UNL Extension program September 11, a day before the official start to Husker Harvest Days.

The clinic, sponsored by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension and the Nebraska Agricultural Technology Association (NeATA), will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11 and conclude about 7:20 p.m. at College Park, near the intersection of U.S. 281 and Nebraska 34.

“There will be representatives from seven companies and each one will have 20 minutes to explain their products,” said UNL Agricultural Engineer Viacheslav Adamchuk. Those presentations will be followed by a panel discussion.

“The major objective of the Sept. 11 program is to help farmers better understand components of auto-guidance systems and the technical solutions available on the market, as well as to identify the benefits and drawbacks of alternative auto-guidance options,” Adamchuk said.

Companies scheduled to participate include: AGCO, Case IH, John Deere, KEE Technologies, Novarian (AutoFarm), Raven Industries and Trimble. Check the program agenda for more details. Dinner will be compliments of participating companies.

The program is free but advanced registration is required. Register by calling (402) 727-2775 or e-mailing Dave Varner at dvarner1@unl.edu. For technical information about the program, contact Adamchuk at (402) 472-8431 or e-mail him at vadamchuk2@unl.edu.
