Secretary Johanns will give the conference keynote address during lunch on Tuesday, August 15. He will highlight the 20th anniversary of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which is the parent program of CREP, and talk about the conservation and wildlife gains made through programs of the 2002 Farm Bill.
“Individuals from across the nation have been invited to this event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to discuss federal conservation programming, particularly CRP and CREP, and how the implementation of those programs affect the states,” said Ann Bleed, Acting Director of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. “We are pleased that Secretary Johanns is joining us.”
Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman will give the welcome address. Other USDA officials scheduled to participate in the Forum include Glen Keppy, who serves as Associate Administrator for Programs for the Farm Service Agency (FSA); John Johnson, who is the FSA Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs; and Tom Christensen, who is the Natural Resources Conservation Service Deputy Chief for Programs. Over 35 individuals, from Nebraska and across the nation, will speak during the four-day event.
“We have lined up a great cross-section of speakers who, on a daily basis in their professions, deal with conservation, wildlife and agriculture,” said Brian Wolford, Executive Director of the Nebraska Farm Service Agency. “The Forum will be a great opportunity to exchange ideas and build partnerships.”
Natural resources, wildlife and agriculture professionals from across the nation are invited to the Forum. Exhibit space also is available for commercial vendors, nonprofit organizations and others.
Forum information and registration material are available on-line at the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) web site, www.agr.ne.gov, under “What’s New Around the Department.” NDA is assisting with organizing the event.
