Sorghum Field Day Trial plot

Hybrid features, new marketing options, and production and pest management will be among the topics presented during the 2013 Sorghum Field Days at six sites Sept. 16-19. Presentations will include:

  • sorghum seed representatives with hybrid information;
  • ethanol plant representatives on market opportunities;
  • UNL Extension on sorghum agronomics and IPM strategies;
  • Ag West with a market outlook; and
  • staff from the United Sorghum Checkoff Program with an update on research and marketing initiatives at the national level.

There also will be a yield guess contest and door prizes.

Participating seed companies are Arrow Seed, Channel Seed, DeKalb Seed, Fontanelle Seed, Gayland Ward Seed,  Mycogen Seed, NuSeed/Richardson Seed, Pioneer, and Sorghum Partners.

The event is sponsored by the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board, Grain Sorghum Producers Association, Agengoa Bioenergy, UNL Extension and ag industry.

  • September 16, 10:30 a.m. — Boelus, Jack and Wayne Reimers Farm (1.5 miles west on Hwy 58)
  • September 16, 1 p.m. — Farwell, John Dvoracek Farm (off of Hwy 92 at west edge of Farwell, go 2 miles north on Salem; 1 mile west on 15th Avenue, and 1.25 miles north on Tilden)
  • September 17, 5:30 p.m. — Hazard, Seth Kucera Farm (on Hwy 2 go 3 miles north toward Litchfield to Road 467, then south 0.5 mile on minimum maintenance road)
  • September 18, 5 p.m. — Trenton, Mike Baker Farm (4 miles north of Trenton on Hwy 25)
  • September 19, 10:30 a.m. — Orleans, James Dunlay Farm (on US Hwy 136 go to North Ave, then north on Harlan Ave. 4 blocks)
  • September 19, 5:30 p.m. — Blue Hill, Ron Bolte Farm (3 miles south of Blue Hill to Hwy 4 and 2.5 miles east or from Lawrence, 7.5 miles west on Hwy 4)
