USDA: Crop Condition Report

Nebraska corn condition rated 76% good to excellent and soybeans rated 90% good to excellent for the week ending June 1, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Other growth factors for the week included:

  • Temperatures averaged 6 to 9 degrees above normal. 
  • There were 5.6 day suitable for fieldwork.
  • Topsoil moisture supplies rated 8% very short, 24% short, 65% adequate, and 3% surplus.
  • Subsoil moisture supplies rated 16% very short, 31% short, 52% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Crop Report

  • Winter wheat conditions rated 8% very poor, 18% poor, 34% fair, 37% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 94%, ahead of 90% last year, but equal to the five-year average. Winter wheat headed was 60%, well ahead of 24% last year, but near 56% average.
     
  • Corn conditions rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 22% fair, 65% good, and 11% excellent. Corn emerged was 90%, ahead of 81% last year, but near the five-year average of 88%. At 99% planting complete, Nebraska was second in the nation behind North Carolina. Wisconsin was 74% done with planting. Most other Midwest states were from 82-95% done.
     
  • Soybean condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 23% good, 67% good, and 8% excellent. Soybeans planting was 96% complete, ahead of 78% last year and the average of 89%. Soybeans emerged was 72%, well ahead of 43% last year and the average of 61%. Nebraska led the nation in getting its soybeans in the ground.
     
  • Sorghum planted was at 78%, ahead of 59% last year and the five-year average of 64. Sorghum emergence was at 23%, ahead of 17% last year, but behind the average of 31%.
     
  • Oat conditions rated 2% very poor, 17% poor, 39% fair, 39% good, and 1% excellent. Oats jointing was 31%. Oats headed was 16%, ahead of 10% last year, but behind the average of 22%.
     
  • Dry bean planting was 16% complete, behind 22% last year and the five-year average of 31%.
     
  • Alfalfa hay condition rated 1% very poor, 8% poor, 39% fair, 45% good, and 7% excellent. Alfalfa hay first cutting was 33% complete, well ahead of 8% last year, but behind the average of 38%.
     
  • Pasture and range conditions rated 12% very poor, 15% poor, 38% fair, 33% good, and 2% excellent.
