Wheat Production

• Wheat Disease Update. Report from June 11 and June 13 wheat disease survey in central, south central, and southeast Nebraska.
• Bacterial Streak and Black Chaff in Wheat, two phases of the same disease, are more prevalent than usual this year, particularly in eastern Nebraska.
• Great Plains Wheat Breeders Discuss New Lines, Current Trials

Soybean Production

• Wet, Cool Weather Favoring Early Season Soybean Diseases. Pythium has been identified in several poor soybean stands. If moisture and warmer conditions continue, watch for Phytophthora.

Corn Production

• Seedling Diseases Appearing in Corn. Cool, wet conditions are leading to the development of diseases caused by Pythium and less frequently, Fusarium.

Alfalfa Production

• Watch for Alfalfa Weevil Adults on Regrowth. First cuttings of alfalfa are later than normal this year, likely leading to increased alfalfa weevil activity.
