Step up your sorghum operation with information and recommendations from the 2013 Sorghum Productivity Seminars Jan. 22 in McCook and Jan. 23 in Fairbury. Both events, which begin with registration and refreshments at 9 a.m., are sponsored by the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board and the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Producers Association.

 Program topics and speakers will include:

  • Long-Range Weather—What’s Ahead? with Al Dutcher, UNL climatologist
  • Sorghum Under Limited Irrigation—Water Use Efficiency with Jennifer Rees, UNL Extension educator
  • Nutrient Management—N, P, Soil Testing & More! with Charles Wortmann, UNL soil nutrient specialist
  • Grain Marketing and Price Prospects
  • Sorghum’s Feed and Forage Value with Karla Jenkins, UNL cow/calf range management specialist
  • Sorghum Checkoff Program Update
  • Economics of Sorghum Production with Matt Stockton and Roger Wilson, UNL ag economists
  • Managing Sorghum—How Do I Do It? a Q&A with a sorghum producer panel
  • Time to “Rethink” Sorghum? Advanced BioFuel with Trenton Ag Products and Focus on Pheasants with Nebraska Game and Parks Association

Each event will include commercial displays, door prizes, and a soup and sandwich lunch featuring sorghum products. Admission at the door is $5 for non-NeGSPA members and is free for members.

The program on Tuesday, Jan. 22, will be held at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds in McCook. The program on Wednesday, Jan. 23, will be held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Fairbury.
