Feb. 13 2015

On this week's Market Journal Nebraska Extension Educator Keith Glewen discusses Nebraska Soybean Management Field Day research and the On-Farm Research Updates.

Research conducted through both of these programs offers "real-world," application-based results that growers can consider when planning for the 2015 growing season, Glewen said. Research conducted as part of the Soybean Management Field Days each August will soon be released and offers insights into fungicide seed treatments, insecticides, early and late season fertilizer use, irrigation, and nitrogen use in soybeans. (The SMFD research results will be formally released in March.)

Glewen also discusses the On-Farm Research Updates featuring results from 75 studies conducted by 50 growers across the state. Programs continue in Norfolk on Monday, Feb. 16, and at the UNL Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Coordinated through the Nebraska On-Farm Research Network (NORN), this research uses field length strips and is conducted by growers using their equipment to answer their questions, Glewen said. These allow growers to compare something they've been doing with something they'd like to try, Glewen said. To ensure accurate results, NORN helps producers plan and set up the research correctly.
